Event description

END YOUR CARNIVAL OF THE FLOWERS WITH A BANG AT SACRED SONIC.

String quartet, pipe organ, soprano + lighting.

Angel Strings merge forces with Toowoomba local Eduarda van Klinken on the iconic pipe organ at St Luke’s Church. They are joined by interstate soprano Eva-Marie Perissinotto while the majestic walls of St Luke’s become a canvas for colour and light in response to the music.

Featuring stirring works by John Taverner, Elgar, Ravel, Philip Glass, Max Richter, Sigur Ros and Hans Zimmer, this is for classical music lovers and non-classical music lovers.

The unique 128 year old setting features gothic arches, striking stained-glass windows, and stunning acoustics.

Coupled with the power of the organ (1,100 pipes!) and the lush tones of live strings and soprano, the immersive experience is a transcendent way to finish your Carnival of Flowers.

ANGEL STRINGS is a passionate string quartet with a wide audience, having played as part of the Brisbane Festival, the World Science Festival, Woodford Folk Festival, on SBS, at the Melbourne Fringe and to tens of thousands as part of the Candlelight Concerts series.

Angel Strings have performed locally and overseas with Opera Queensland, Queensland Theatre, Archie Roach and Guy Sebastian. Individual ‘Angels’ have performed with the Queensland and Melbourne Symphony Orchestras and shared the stage with Nigel Kennedy, Pavarotti, Andrea Bocelli, Il Divo and Eminem.

EDUARDA VAN KLINKEN is as at home on the beautiful organ at St Luke’s as she is at QPAC and Brisbane City Hall. She can be found playing with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, the Queensland Choir and with local handbell ringing group, the Toowoombells.

EVA-MARIE PERISSINOTTO is a dramatic soprano whose dark, rich voice is renowned for filling St Stephen’s Cathedral unamplified. While singing opera, oratorios, sacred music and chamber works around Australia, Eva-Marie is a composer & producer and holds a PhD in vocal music.

DANIEL ENDICOTT is a sought after lighting designer and producer, working regularly at QPAC, the Brisbane Powerhouse, the Tivoli, Woodford Folk Festival, Riverstage, Southbank, and Australia-wide with Topology.
