Sacred Weaving: The Ancient Art of Ojo de Dios (Tzikuri)

Join us at Lume for a special two-part workshop exploring the ancient Mexican practice of Tzikuri (Ojo de Dios / Eye of God), guided by multidisciplinary artist and practitioner Andria Pablo (Xiuh).

Originating with the Wirrarika peoples of Mexico, the Tzikuri is a sacred object woven as a talisman of protection, balance, and creation. Across two evenings, Andria will share the rich cultural history and traditional practices of this art form—exploring how we can weave these ancient understandings into our modern lives as we come together to create a giant, communal Tzikuri for Lume and our Moana.

Materials: All weaving materials are provided.

Refreshments: Warm tea and cookies will be provided for you to enjoy while you create.

Sliding Scale Pricing

We believe in making art accessible. We offer a sliding scale payment system to cover the costs for workshop materials and ensure everyone can participate regardless of their budget:

• Supported: For those with limited financial means.

• Standard: Covers the cost of materials and the artist’s time.

• Pay-it-forward: If you are in a position to give more, this higher tier helps subsidise those on a lower budget and further supports the artist’s mahi.
  

About the Facilitator

Andria Pablo (Xiuh) is a Mexican-born multidisciplinary artist and practitioner living in Aotearoa. Her work weaves back to her cultural heritage with the intention to re-indigenise how we live and relate to the world. Drawing on traditional practices like Temazcal, Kinam, Moon Dance, embroidery, and weaving, Xiuh shares the legacy of her ancient lineage to sow balance and harmony for today and the next seven generations ahead.
