Event description

Safe & Together™ Model 2-day Supervisor Training — Darwin by Empowering Growth

Domestic abuse is a complex issue that presents significant challenges for many government and non-government agencies. Effective handling requires specialized skills, confidence, and knowledge. Supervising workers in a domestic abuse context provides them with the necessary support and guidance to work effectively with adult and child survivors, intervene with perpetrators, and prioritize safety for all involved.

This in-person training equips supervisors and managers with the essential tools to guide their workers in applying a perpetrator pattern-based approach to casework. The training focuses on three critical supervisory skills:

  • assessing and supporting worker practice quality

  • making informed decisions and providing guidance

  • managing worker safety

Prerequisite: This 2-day training is designed for practitioners who have successfully completed the Safe & Together™ Model CORE Training and are eager to apply these techniques and knowledge to their supervisory roles.

We strongly recommend that supervisors not only have a thorough understanding of the Model but also actively incorporate it into their daily work within the agency, department, or unit.

About the Safe & Together™ Model 2-day Supervisor Training

Domestic abuse is one of the most challenging case issues facing child protection and other family service agencies. Handling it well requires skills, confidence and knowledge. Supervising training is strongly recommended as part of any agency effort to promote organisation-wide, domestic violence-informed change.

Training is organised into three critical supervisory skills:

  1. Assessing the quality of their workers' practice.

  1. Addressing worker safety concerns.

  1. Decision making and case guidance.

Supervisors and managers learn will:

  • Key skills to help their workers apply a perpetrator pattern- based approach to casework.

  • Skills to address worker emotional and physical safety issues that have implications for domestic-violence informed practice and family outcomes.

Supervising workers in domestic violence-informed practice is one way to make sure front line workers have the support and guidance they need when working with adult and child survivors, intervening with perpetrators and managing safety for themselves and the family.
