Event description

Safe Space - An Affirming, Accessible and Affordable Social Event for Neurodivergent Adults (18+) in Geelong.

Come join us at The National Hotel for a fantastic evening celebrating the festive period together! This in-person event is specifically designed for Neurodivergent adults aged 18 and above. We understand the importance of creating a safe and inclusive environment where everyone can feel comfortable being themselves.

This festive themed event will differ from previous events and will include the following:

  • Christmas Bon Bons (silent, no cracking) with Christmas themed goodies for you to take home.
  • Special Interest Trivia (send in your special interest and it will form part of the trivia questions - we will be individual players but welcome to collaborate with others when answering questions)
  • Facilitated Group Games between trivia rounds.
  • Festive Decorations

Trivia will be made accessible and comfortable for all by including a number of ways to participate:

  • Everyone will play as an individual, answering questions on their phone. Questions will be multiple choice.
  • You will be sitting with other people and can choose to discuss answers at the table and help one another out (if you want too).
  • There is no scoreboard or leaderboard (only you know your score).

Following the trivia event, there will be the opportunity to engage in our regular activities such as board games, art and craft for the remainder of the evening.

At Safe Space, you'll have the opportunity to meet and socialize with like-minded individuals who share similar experiences and perspectives. Whether you identify as Autistic, have ADHD, or any other form of neurodivergence, this event is for you!

We do not discriminate based on disability, diagnosis or NDIS status. Anyone and everyone is welcome whether it be with a formal diagnosis, self-diagnosis or self-identifying, as an NDIS participant or non-NDIS participant. We can accept self, plan and NDIA managed requests to purchase tickets. Tickets must be paid in full prior to the event if paid through an NDIS plan.

Located on Moorabool Street in Geelong, the National Hotel provides a welcoming and accessible venue for our gathering. The event will be held in a private room, with its own private bar with no public access. The space is accessible via an elevator and accommodations will be made wherever possible to allow for a sensory friendly experience (sound, light, smells etc).

To keep the event affordable for all, we have selected the lowest possible ticket price to cover the cost and time spent to put together the event. There is the opportunity to purchase your own meal from the venue if you would like. Soft drinks and alcoholic beverages will be available at bar prices.

Our priority is accommodating for your accessibility needs. To make the event as accessible as possible, attendees will have access to the following on the night to support your attendance:

  • Detailed event guide to provide as much information prior to the event (Easy Read version available).
  • Lanyards and name tags.
  • Access to sensory supports throughout the evening (regulation tools, sensory toys, fidgets).
  • Communication cards will be provided if requested, and communication aids will be supported for use at the event.
  • Access to in-person support from Neurodivergent Allied Health Professionals throughout the event (Please note that if you require 1:1 support, this is not provided as part of the event. Support people can attend to provide 1:1 support at no cost).
  • The opportunity to request accessibility requirements which will be accommodated where possible.
  • Access to the organiser's contact details to discuss the event and how your attendance can be supported in any way - we really mean it when we say we are here for you.

Join us for a night of fun and the chance to make new connections and friendships and celebrate the festive period. Feel free to bring a support person or come on your own – either way, you'll be warmly welcomed into our community.

Don't miss out on this incredible opportunity to be part of a safe and inclusive space for Neurodivergent adults in Geelong. Mark your calendars and join us at Safe Space!
