Blue Mountains Safe Space for Suicide Prevention are proud to invite you to their Let's Laugh, Let's Talk World Suicide Prevention Day Fundraiser on Saturday 12th September 2026 at 7.45pm at Katoomba RSL, 86 Lurline Street, Katoomba, NSW, 2780.
The line-up will feature performances from two incredibly talented local musicians Nic Danta and Matt Tonks and two world class comedians; Kiwi legend Brendhan Lovegrove and Australian favourite Steve Hughes who are guaranteed to rattle your rib cages and share some poignant parts of their own experience of mental health.

Please note, this event will feature course language and content of an adult nature. We recommend this event for people 18 years of age or older.
Doors open 7pm for a 7.45pm start with Nic and Matt playing a set of six of their songs before a short interlude hearing from Safe Space volunteers followed by Brendhan and Steve giving their best and most hilarious standup comedy routines.

At the event you'll no doubt spot our Blue Mountains Safe Space volunteers who are happy to have a chat about what they do for our community and why their own stories motivate them in providing peer support.
Together we can make a difference and prevent suicide. All proceeds go to Blue Mountains Safe Space for Suicide Prevention who provide a ‘drop in’ style space located at 2 Station Street, Katoomba that offers a non-clinical alternative to emergency departments for people experiencing emotional distress or suicidal crisis. The safe space is open on the 1st, 2nd, and 4th Fridays of every month from 6pm to 9pm.
Safe space provides warm, welcoming environments free from stigma where people can reduce their distress and choose to speak with volunteers who have their own lived experience of suicidal crisis, caring for a loved one who has experienced thoughts of suicide, or of being bereaved by suicide. Perspectives of hope come from shared experience and people can thrive when accessing this meaningful peer support with the opportunity to speak openly about suicide, finding a connection through mutual understanding in a time of crisis.

Steve Hughes
Steve Hughes spent his formative years in Australia as heavy metal drummer. After ten years of recording and touring Steve gave up his job as a drummer and decided to start talking to the audience. Heavy Rock bands Slaughter Lord, Mortal Sin, Nazxul, and Primordial’s losses are the comedy world’s gain. Steve is now widely regarded one of the most esteemed and exciting stand up comedians working on the Australian, UK and International circuits.
Brendhan Lovegrove
Brendhan Lovegrove is a renowned New Zealand comedian celebrated for his sharp wit and dynamic performances on the NZ comedy circuit and shows like Pulp Comedy and A Night at the Classic. He has gained international acclaim and entertained sold-out crowds for well over a decade within New Zealand, Australia, Asia, Canada, and UK. A winner of the Billy T Award and multiple Best Male Comedian awards, Brendhan has also performed at top venues and festivals, respected and enjoyed for his bold and memorable comedy.
Nic Danta
Nic Danta is a Katoomba-based singer-songwriter whose moody, evocative songs fuse Dylan-style folk with the pop bite of Billy Bragg and The Cure. A former Spooky Men's Chorale performer, he writes intimate stories of people and place — songs that hit hard and hang around long after the last chord fades. Nic is a regular across Sydney, the Blue Mountains and Dangar Island, with appearances at the Blue Mountains Folk Festival, Winter Magic and Katoomba Live and Local, and shows at Zoe's in Blackheath and The Old City Bank in Katoomba. His debut album, Buried at Sea, produced and engineered by Neill Duncan at Single Hand Studio, captures the quiet intensity and rich texture of his live performances. More recently, Nic has joined the Standing Strong Band — a collaboration with Northern Territory songwriter Ray Dimakarri Dixon and fellow Blue Mountains musicians — touring the Nguku: Water Is Life show. Solo or with the trio, Nic plays like a writer who trusts his audience to lean in.
Matt Tonks
Matt Tonks is a visionary acoustic artist who shatters expectations and pushes the limits of the singer-songwriter genre. His innovative sound blends fluid melodies, hypnotic rhythms, and organic electronic elements, culminating in a captivating fusion of folk and electronica. Matt has a presence that draws you in without demanding your attention. He is known for his expressive playing and distinctive songwriting in which he blends rich vocals with intricate guitar work, creating performances that feel both intimate and quietly powerful leaving audiences spellbound.
