Intimate Partner Violence and Reproductive Coercion and Abuse: A Safe to Tell Story

Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) and Reproductive Coercion and Abuse (RCA) are among the most pervasive forms of violence against women, and a leading cause of illness, disability and death for women. One in three Australian women have experienced violence at some stage in their life — most of this violence is perpetrated by an intimate partner.

Sexual Health Quarters (SHQ) made a commitment to responding to this critical issue with the launch of the Safe to Tell Project in 2021, an innovative, comprehensive IPV/RCA primary health care screening and professional training initiative to support those most vulnerable to violence. 

We invite you to join us as we explore the why, what, where and how of IPV/RCA. Clinicians and community sectors leaders will share thought-provoking and insightful case studies along with their practical experiences with implementing IPV/RCA screening and training within their practices and services.

Starting with SHQ's initial research-evidence, we will share the innovative clinical IPV/RCA research findings, the effectiveness of screening in recognising, responding, and supporting those at risk, and how our experiences led to the development of the Safe to Tell Project, the RACGP accredited IPV/RCA clinical training, and the successful implementation of IPV/RCA screening and training within two primary health care settings.
