Safe to Engage: Trauma-Responsive Mind-Body Practices
Event description
In this two hour workshop you will:
- Understand the physical, mental, and emotional impact of mindfulness and regulating movement on the brain and nervous system.
- Experience simple practices to activate the vagus nerve to establish feelings of safety.
- Identify and cultivate Inner Resources as a way to navigate challenges within family systems and relationships and create opportunities during complex times.
- Explore the impact of systemic racism on the nervous system within communities and family systems.
- Create a simple mind-body tool kit to incorporate into their personal and professional life.
2 hours of Continuing education approved by MN Board of Marriage & Family Therapy and MN Board of Behavioral Health & Therapy
**1 hour cultural competency approved by MN board of MFT**

Schedule:
9:30am-10:00 am: Introduction of Kathy’s background, agenda and grounding practice using the Inner Resources Card Deck.
10:00-10:30: Explore the science and foundational concepts of trauma-responsive mind-body practices including the impact of systematic racism on the nervous system.
10:30-10:45: Experience simple practices to activate the vagus nerve to establish feelings of safety.
10:45-11:15: Explore and practice Breathe Move Rest strategies to activate the parasympathetic nervous system.
11:15-1130: Build your mind-body toolkit
11:30-11:45am: Q & A , final discussion, and mindful nap!
