Safer Futures Symposium
Event description
Hosted by WorkUP Queensland and True Relationships & Reproductive Health, this symposium aims to create a collaborative platform that connects the youth support sector and domestic and family violence, sexual violence and women’s health and wellbeing sectors to address the multifaceted challenges faced by vulnerable young people navigating their relationships. The overarching theme underscores the collective commitment to influencing young people’s perspectives, breaking cycles of violence, and shaping positive outcomes for the next generation.
The full-day event will provide attendees with an opportunity to learn and work through the unique intersecting barriers that affect vulnerable young people. Attendees will have the option to participate in a range of workshops throughout the day as well as hearing from two different panels; one of service providers who have successfully helped young people and one of young people who have had positive experiences with service providers. Additionally, attendees will meet and hear keynote speaker, youth worker and TV personality Brooke Blurton speak on her experience an Aboriginal woman, a victim/survivor and youth worker.

- To hear from inspirational speakers, including youth advocates, researchers, and people working in the industry from the range of sectors
- To learn about how to support vulnerable young people as they experience unique challenges.
- To gain an understanding of how to use existing resources in an engaging and meaningful way for young people.

This event is delivered by WorkUP Queensland in partnership with True Relationships & Reproductive Health.
The Symposium will include:
- Presentations from speakers across the sector including True Relationships & Reproductive Health, Children by Choice, Brisbane Youth Service, IFYS, Ethni, ANROWS and more.
- A keynote speech from Brooke Blurton.
- A youth-led panel which will discuss their diverse and positive experiences of service use.
Who should attend
- Workers from domestic and family violence, sexual violence and women's health and wellbeing services funded by the Office for Women's Safety and Violence Prevention, Department of Justice and Attorney-General.
- Youth workers working in youth support and YHARS services funded by the Department of Child Safety.
- Other youth workers/people working with vulnerable young people in youth support or DFV/SV services.
