Event description

We're cracking open something special for the true beer heads. Join us for a vertical tasting of St. Bernardus ABT 12—one of the most revered Quadrupels in the world. This is a rare opportunity to experience how time transforms this iconic brew, side by side.

On the lineup:

  • 2014 Vintage – A decade of mellowing and complexity.

  • 2024 Fresh Release – Bold, fruity, and full of youthful punch

  • Matusalem 6L Bottle – A showpiece pour, perfect for comparison.

Why Abt 12?
Originally brewed in collaboration with the Trappists of Westvleteren, ABT 12 follows the traditional abbey-style formula: strong (10%),
dark, and packed with flavour. It’s rich with notes of raisin, fig, plum, caramel, and warming spice, balanced by a creamy mouthfeel and dry finish. It’s a beer that’s already brilliant fresh—but give it time, and it evolves.

What does aging do?
As it cellars, ABT 12 sheds some of its sweetness and carbonation, trading sharp edges for mellow depth. Dark fruit notes get deeper, oxidation brings out sherry-like richness, and the alcohol integrates more smoothly. Each vintage tells a different story, shaped by time and storage.

The Pairings:
To match the richness of each pour, we’re serving bite sized companions of:

  • Bone marrow & brisket tartine – smoky, fatty, savoury depth

  • Smoked salmon & avocado mayo smørrebrød – creamy, fresh, salty balance

  • Deep-fried Brie with chutney toast – gooey, crisp, sweet/savoury perfection

Hosted by Ian Watson, who’ll guide us through the tasting with insights on the beer’s history, brewing technique, and the magic of aging.
