Event description

Coming up on Sunday the 20th of November we'll have one of Arnhem land's favourite band Saltwater band supported by Eddie ' Janama' Kitching. A beautiful night of music and dance.

Saltwater Band are an Indigenous Roots band from Galiwin'ku on Elcho Island, around 560 kilometres from Darwin. The members are Yolngu and they sing mostly in Yolngu languages. Their songs are a mixture of traditional songs and reggae/ska influenced pop. Their first studio release, "Gapu Damurrun" sold an unprecedented 10,000 copies and featured unique contemporary traditional songs (such as ‘Gopuru’ and ‘Mala Rrakala’), songs over 10,000 years old reimagined in such a way that they feel utterly new, as well as new contemporary pop songs such as the reggae/ska influenced ‘Saltwater Music’ and the beautiful ‘Gurrumul History’.

Eddie 'Janama' Kitching

Eddie is a beautiful singer, songer and songman playing original tunes with a full band.

A renowned painter and descendant of land rights legend Jimmy Wavehill, Eddie also makes music and recently dropped this single, 'Sometime Soon.' Recorded at CAAMA with Paul Ah Chee, Warren H Williams, Katie Harder, Joey Klarenbeek and Jeremy Conlon it could be about Covid or about love, have a listen and find out!
