ABOUT THE BOOK

Released to coincide with the hotly anticipated 25–26 Ashes, The Grade Cricketer : Alphas, Champs and Chop Kings by Sam Perry and Ian Higgins - hosts of The Grade Cricketer podcast and spiritual captains of anyone who ever dreamed of making it – is your tongue-in-cheek guide to grade cricket: The Unwritten Rules of Clubland. Since starting as a humble Twitter handle in 2012, Perry and Higgins have built The Grade Cricketer brand into a cult phenomenon with their podcast, sell-out live events, TV and radio shows, and a growing global audience of over 1 million followers on social media drawn to their commentary on cricket and modern life. Their new book cements their place as sharp observers of the game – both on and off the field. This Ashes summer, they will be absolutely everywhere, including in bookstores. Alphas, Champs and Chop Kings is a brutally honest, often risque, and unapologetic exploration of the sacred laws that govern club cricket. From the hilarious and downright shady characters who inhabit the game, to the Circuit, to tub culture, it is a satirical field manual for every cricketer who knows the real game happens in the dressing room, not on the pitch. Whether you're an armchair cricket tragic, a long-retired medium pacer still nursing a shoulder injury from 2009, or someone just trying to figure out why your weekend revolves around a sport you don't even enjoy, this book is for you.

ABOUT THE GRADE CRICKETER - SAM PERRY AND IAN HIGGINS

As wide-eyed juniors, Sam Perry and Ian Higgins both dreamed of playing cricket for Australia one day. That was before they entered the harsh, dog-eat-dog world of Australian grade cricket, where their hopes and dreams were swiftly extinguished; their cricketing careers subsequently laid to rest. As a form of catharsis, 'The Grade Cricketer' was born: a desperate, delusional 'everyman' who thousands of middling amateur athletes can relate to, even if they refuse to admit it publicly. Now with over 1 million followers @thegradecricketer is their satirical take on cricket across the globe.
