Samhain and Spirits: A Celebration, Conversation and Ceremony

Halloween has become synonymous with costumes, revelry and the supernatural. But beneath the modern celebration sits an older seasonal threshold: Samhain, an ancient Celtic festival. A time associated with transition, remembrance and the relationship between the living and the dead.

Traditionally, Samhain was a time when the boundary between the physical world and the spirit world was believed to become more permeable, creating a space to acknowledge those who had come before us and those who were no longer here. 

We want to use that threshold as an invitation to gather.

We have all come from somewhere. From someone. From stories, places, families, friendships, cultures, landscapes and experiences that existed before us. And we are all, in some way, carrying something forward.

Presented by registered counsellor and cultural therapist, Mollie Vaughan, the evening will move between conversation, ancestral communion, ritual and celebration.

This event will culminate in a small ritual of remembrance: an opportunity to acknowledge what and who we have loved and lost throughout the year. Not necessarily with sadness, but with gratitude.

There is something particularly fitting about holding this gathering at Anther Gin Distillery.

We come together around the still, the glass, the spirit in our hands - quite literally.

Spirit as something we drink. Spirit as something we feel. Spirit as something we inherit.

A gathering where people can arrive as themselves. Where there is room for laughter and conversation, but also quiet.  Where the ritual isn't overly formal or theatrical, but simple and human.

A night to pause at the threshold of a new season.
