Monash Health offers a comprehensive one-day childbirth education session for first time parents birthing at Sandringham hospital.

The program is conducted face to face at the hospital, over one day. This session will be facilitated by a midwife educator, offering the opportunity for asking questions and discussions.

The program aims to cover topics such as:

What is labour
When to call the hospital
Things the birthing woman and their support person can assist them with in labour - at home and in the hospital
Informed Consent and refusal
Medical options for pain relief in hospital
Medical intervention and care
Newborns' communication and adaption after birth
Initiating breastfeeding
Becoming a new parent
Safety at home

We recommend you look as soon as possible and select and pay for a program that commences when you are around 28-32 weeks pregnant. Please complete the booking using the birthing woman's name. You and your partner are encouraged to attend or you may bring one support person.
If you are part of a "Continuity of Care" program, please contact the Childbirth Education department before bringing your midwife.

The session runs from 8.30am -4pm and will be held at Sandringham Hospital. Tea & coffee is provided. You will need to bring your own lunch. A microwave is available for use.

As the program is a full day, you may wish to bring a pillow or cushion for your comfort.

Cost $150.00. One ticket is for two people.

Refunds:

- Will only be considered if you request a refund through your original booking on Humanitix.

- Refunds will need to be requested at least 7 days prior to the event - Will not be given once the program has commenced.

- Will not be considered if you choose to book later in your pregnancy than the recommended 32 weeks.

- If you request a refund/cancellation, we cannot guarantee a place in another program
