Join us for our second social bird walk - an easy going morning in nature, open to LGBTQIA+ folks and allies of all experience levels. Whether you’re a seasoned twitcher or just curious about your local birdlife, we'd love for you to join us.
📍 Where: Sandy Camp Road Wetlands Reserve, Wynnum West QLD 4178 (opposite Iona College). We are meeting at the main entrance via the car park near the big field on Sandy Camp Road.
Please note that the car park is quite small. We encourage friends to carpool with one another where possible.
🗓️ When: Sunday 3, August 2025
⏰ Time: 10:00AM - 1:00PM (approx.)
🚶♀️ Distance: This is a 3.2KM walk suitable for beginners.
Accessibility: The main tracks are flat and a mix of sealed and unsealed paths, though they may become boggy in sections after rains. There are benches scattered throughout the site. Please reach out if you have specific access needs or concerns.
About the Walk
Sandy Camp Rd Wetland Reserve is a favoured spot for observing diverse birdlife. The habitat features reed beds, wetland scrub and heath, freshwater lagoons, open grasslands, and multiple viewing spots. This month eBird users have logged up to 134 species.
We’ll meet at the car park entrance opposite Iona College on Sandy Camp Rd. After checking out the Osprey on a nesting platform in the large field, we'll explore a loop along the various tracks and wetland edges, reconvening at the end of the walk to finalise our findings.

Why Join?
Birdwatching is a beautiful way to slow down, connect with nature, and build community. As we appreciate the local avifauna, we also reflect on the histories of this land and our shared responsibilities in protecting it.
This walk takes place on the Stolen, Unceded land of the Yuggera and Turrbal people. We pay our respect to the Traditional Owners and all First Nations folks in our community. We invite attendees to walk with mindfulness and respect.
🌈 This event is for the LGBTQIA+ community and our allies 🌈
There is no cost to attend. We can’t wait to bird with you!
