Members of the Sappho Community are invited to join Voices of Women for an immersive evening of storytelling as we celebrate the winners of Embellishment!

Embellishment has developed from the gathering of women’s stories from across Australia and the United States, with a focus on young women and First Nations stories.

Hear from our esteemed judges and Guest Speakers as we announce the winning and highly commended stories – from the comedic to the intensely personal and tragic. Above all the stories celebrate resilience, success and our shared humanity.

Drinks from the bar and Sappho tapas will be available for purchase at the event.

Guest Speakers

Antoinette Lattouf is an award-winning journalist, broadcaster and columnist. She is the author of How to Lose Friends and Influence White People, a TedX speaker and the co-founder of Media Diversity Australia. She’s been named among AFR’s 100 women of influence.

Bina Bhattacharya is an award-winning filmmaker and AWGIE-nominated feature film writer from Campbelltown in South-West Sydney. Bina was one of eight writers for the anthology film Here Out West which opened the Sydney Film Festival 2021. She directed the music video for ARIA-nominated Punjabi-Australian singer Parvyn’s single What You See. Bina is a Creative Producer, Youth and Emerging, at PYT Fairfield, Western Sydney’s leading professional theatre company with a focus on youth. She runs production company Gemme de la Femme Pictures and is in post-production for her first feature film From All Sides, scheduled for release in 2024.

Michele Seminara is a Voices of Women Board Member, poet and editor. She has been published in poetry collection Engraft (Island Press, 2016), collaborative chapbook Scar to Scar (with Robbie Coburn, PressPress, 2016) and HUSH (Blank Rune Press, 2017). Suburban Fantasy, a collection of her poetry was published with UWA Publishing in 2021. She regularly appears as a panellist, performer and facilitator at literary events and writers festivals Australia-wide.
