Sapwood Presents: The Anna Weaving Collective
Event description
Welcome to Sapwood, a hidden gem in the heart of the Hunter Valley, where music meets nature in a magical setting. Our bush stage, nestled among lush greenery, sets the scene for intimate house concerts that are more than just performances—they're immersive experiences. Operating as a secret garden show, Sapwood invites you to discover a sanctuary where music resonates with soul and spirit. Each concert is a unique journey into the power of connection and music.
For our first house concert for 2025 organised in collaboration with Soundness Arts we are excited to announce The Anna Weaving Collective.
The Anna Weaving Collective takes center stage with an extraordinary lineup featuring internationally acclaimed recording artist, multi-instrumentalist, and vocalist Anna Weaving, alongside masterful bass player Georges Magnan. Joining them are long-time collaborators Carolyn Packer, a pianist and vocalist extraordinaire, and Cameron Jones, a virtuoso Gypsy jazz guitarist and the creative director of OzManouche - a festival held every year at the iconic Brisbane Jazz Club. Together, they’ll guide you through a vibrant musical journey blending New Orleans traditions, early Blues, Boogie-Woogie, and Swing, culminating in the infectious rhythms of Gypsy Swing—a true celebration of French Quarter spirit.
The evening opens with Joana Ruival, a Portuguese-born, Hunter Valley-based vocalist and multi-instrumentalist renowned for her innovative live performances. Using looping technology, drum machines, and her rich voice, Joana reimagines classic pop, rock, reggae, and world music, accompanied by talented musicians Vahid and Mark Roser, your gracious hosts for the night.
The following morning, we will offer space and support for you to prepare your own breakfast, communal sharing is welcomed but not necessary. We have morning jams, possible bush walks or just hanging about the stage for a slow restful day.
