Sarah Tiffen Author Talk and Open Mic with Booranga Writers’
Event description
Sarah Tiffen has been writing all her life. Her sixth book of poetry - Redemption Road: new and early works - is due out soon through Ginninndera Press. She is Founder of Leeton Writers Collective and Riverina Writing House - an independent publishing house and centre for writers and writing - and mentors writers from all backgrounds, young and old, to find their voice and tell their stories.
Her writing has a particular relationship to Place - and rural Australia and the people, landscape, history and community of her home country feature in much of her work. She is a strong proponent of the philosophy that the more particular and specific one's writing, the more universal it becomes and the spiritual aspects of her poetry have been commented on by many. She is part of a developing "Riverina Aesthetic" about which she has written, as an emerging recognisable 'school' of writing and storytelling, including film and art.
Shortlisted for the ACU Poetry Prize three times, and featured in ABC Radio's PoeticA, and Best of Australian Poetry a number of times, she was friends with the late great Les Murray and he honoured her by twice publishing her work in Quadrant when he was Poetry Editor. She lives in her hometown of Leeton, and when not writing, rambles on the farm and relishes the company of her three beloved children - Tom, Lillian and Wilbur, who also feature in her work.
Join Sarah and stay for the Open Mic as a reader or lover of fine wordsmithing.
