ABOUT SARGISSON-ANDERSON-PARKER
Vintage jazz pianist Wil Sargisson brings a new trio to JMI, featuring Mike Anderson on guitar and Elliott Parker on bass.
Wil was raised on blues and boogie piano in New Zealand back in the late 1980s, expanding later into New Orleans R&B, Harlem stride, and mainstream jazz. Influences include Fats Waller, Albert Ammons, James Booker and Oscar Peterson. At present he is making preparations for an appearance at a boogie woogie festival in France this August.
Mike Anderson hails from Victoria and quickly earned a reputation as one of the finest guitarists in South East QLD. Mike is a composer and guitar teacher with a passion for the jazz tradition. He attended the Victorian College of the Arts, worked as a utility musician on cruise ships around the world, and was named a top ten finalist in the National Jazz Awards for guitar, as part of the Wangaratta Jazz and Blues Festival.
Elliott Parker has quickly become one of the most in-demand upright bass players in Brisbane, performing several night a week while also teaching at the QLD Conservatorium. Still only in his 20s, Elliott has compiled an impressive resume, playing with the likes of Barney McAll and Tyrone Noonan. He is part of a trio with Wil and drummer Mitch Bellert that pays tribute to the music of the great Oscar Peterson.
