Sashiko Basics Workshop

Join Jun, a Sashiko artist, and discover the soothing rhythm and beauty of traditional Sashiko.

In this beginner-friendly 2 hour session, participants will explore essential Sashiko tools, fundamentals, and unique, efficient techniques—including a simple method of stitching from the reverse side without complicated knots. You will craft the classic ASANOHA (Hemp Leaf) geometric pattern, symbolic of health and resilience, choosing from a variety of vibrant fabric and thread colours.

Every participant will finish a 12cm x 12cm stitched piece, framed and ready to proudly display at home.

About the instructor

Jun Brealey is an Adelaide-based Sashiko artist and instructor dedicated to the art of traditional Sashiko stitching. To ensure a genuine experience, Jun sources all workshop materials directly from Japan, utilizing Sashiko threads and fabrics of the highest quality. Through simple but meditative stitching, Jun helps participants find beauty in every stitch.

All workshop materials provided and sourced from Japan. This workshop is aimed at adults and is perfect for both beginners and experienced stitchers. Participants are encouraged to bring small scissors or thread clippers from home if available.

When a Catastrophic Fire Danger Rating is declared for the Mt Lofty Ranges, all Adelaide Hills Council Library branches will be closed, and all events and programs will be cancelled without notice.

When an Extreme 2 (75+) Fire Danger Rating is declared for the Mt Lofty Ranges, the Gumeracha Library will be closed and all events and programs will be cancelled without notice.

Events at all library branches may be subject to review on Fire Danger Days and may also be cancelled without notice.

Any monies paid will either be reimbursed or the event will be rescheduled for a later date.
