He is a Technical Officer in Palaeontology at the Australian Museum and has recently completed his PhD specialising in temnospondyl amphibians at the University of New South Wales. He began his postgraduate training at the University of New England, where he completed a Masters in 2019, focussing on opalised crocodile fossils. Through his work, Lachlan has named multiple species of extinct animals including crocodiles, amphibians and insects. Prior to dedicating his life to palaeontology, Lachlan was a primary school teacher for over a decade and continues to lecture in the School of Education at UNSW and UNE.
