Event description

The Sauna Project is proud to announce Aotearoa's very first sauna festival!

You are warmly invited to join us in Oropi, Tauranga on the 17th of June for a 24-hour sauna festival. The weekend will be full of activities that are centered around health and well-being. Sauna bathing is an ancient practice that dates back thousands of years and is most popular in European countries. There is something special about sitting in a sauna with no distractions from the outside world, sweating out the stress of the day, and reconnecting with the body. We've found that connection with one's self and others becomes easier in a sauna. Our aim for this festival is for you to leave with more awareness of the health benefits of sauna bathing and with new connections to others. Here's a quick look at the activities that will unfold over the weekend...

  • Sauna
  • Ice plunge
  • Breathwork
  • Educational workshops
  • Yoga
  • Meditation
  • Games
  • Food
  • Music
  • Dance

The opening ceremony will begin at 12 pm on the 17th of June (Saturday) and the closing ceremony will begin at 12 pm on the 18th of June (Sunday).

Facilitators

There will be a range of facilitators, sharing their expertise around health and wellness. Keep an eye on our Instagram page for announcements. Our main speaker is Dr. Giresh Kanji who is the author of 'Brain Connections' an NZ best seller where he outlines five habits that reduce the activity of the stress brain and improve insomnia, anxiety and depression. Dr. Giresh Kanji has spent years researching the science of insomnia, anxiety, and depression. He is a huge advocate for using the sauna to help complete the body's natural stress cycle. We are lucky enough to have him share his knowledge and expertise at sauna fest! You can find his website here: https://gireshkanji.com/

Live for More

Live for more is a local organisation operating in Tauranga. "Our purpose at Live for More is to empower rangatahi/young people to find freedom from their troubled pasts and be inspired to live positive and fulfilling lives. Through our surf therapy programmes, we transform troubled lives – one wave at a time." For more information go to their website: https://liveformore.org.nz/

All the profits from Sauna Fest will be donated to Live For More.

Camping

There will be plenty of room to park your van or pitch a tent for Saturday night. You don't need to buy an extra camping pass, it's already included in your ticket. We also have plenty of water on site, just think of it as staying at a campground :)

Food

There will be food available for purchase however we'd recommend bringing some of your own food. There will be stations set up where you can prepare food and washup. The festival will go for 24 hours, so that's pretty much lunch, dinner, breakfast and lunch. Make sure to eat after using the saunas, otherwise it can be uncomfortable!

Looking forward to seeing you in Oropi for a weekend of wellness, connection and fun! The space is open to all.
