Together we CAN Save Lives From Suicide!

Over the past 12 months Soul Lift has travelled 4x to FNQ (Far North QLD) to provide mental wellness support and suicide prevention programs for people experiencing anguish in remote and often very isolated communities. It has been one of the most rewarding times and yet also one of the saddest times as you hear story upon story of families who have lost loved ones to suicide. This is especially tragic when they are young people! 😭

According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, suicide is still 'the leading cause of death among Australia people aged 14-44 years old, 2022-2023.' And even more alarmingly, 'this is two times more likely in rural, remote areas.' [Lifeline 2023] 'and occurs twice as often for First Nations and Torres Straight Islander people than it does for non-indigenous counterparts.' [ABS, 2022].

In just one of these remote communities several families have lost multiple family members to suicide. This breaks our heart 💔   

Soul Lift met with families to help release deep pain from these tragic losses.

😭 One family shared the gut-wrenching loss of a Dad and a son, and of their two teenage daughters who had just come out of hospital from making an attempt.

😭 Another family wept with us over the loss of four children to suicide within two years - the present darkenss they were experiencing was overwhelming. 

😭 Still another family shared of horrific circumstances that led to the loss of their Dad and two teenage sons in quick succession. Our hearts were torn sore with sadness and grief. 

Soul Lift's calling to the remote regions was fast becoming apparent. These families, so broken by suicide, desparately pleaded with us to do something to stem the flow of suicides in their community so that lives could be saved and families could be spared the bitter grief of losing loved ones to suicide like they had. Soul Lift rallied a team of volunteers and orchestrated community events to open up raw, real and relevant discussions about suicide, what to do when feeling like you can't go on, and what services are available to get the help needed, in that moment when there seems no way forward. We wanted people to know there is always hope. Many lives have been saved through these gatherings and healing programs, but there are many more communities with many more people experiencing all-time lows that need our help. We have another team ready to go, but we need your financial support for this work to go ahead.

✅ $15 will help Soul Lift provide a sit, sip and share session for someone doing it tough.

✅ $30 will provide people down and out with a listening ear and a word of encouragement.

✅ $50 will help Soul Lift access communications and safety support in areas without reception.

✅ $80 will supply food for families living on the brink.

✅ $100 will bless a person needing to release trauma and pain with a healing session.

✅ $140 will enable us to get some grub each week...so we don't have to eat grubs…(literally!)

✅ $150 will deliver visionary coaching sessions for groups of people needing to find a way forward.

✅ $180 will facilitate a yarn circle for groups of people to share the load of heartbreak and tragedy.

✅ $320 will give Bumblebee a full tank of fuel to get us 800km into remote areas.

✅ $500 will enable Soul Lift to offer community gatherings for those who've lost a loved one to suicide. It's time to stand up, speak out and yarn about suicide.

✅ $700 will enable Soul Lift to run community BBQs, mental wellness workshops, suicide prevention events and motivational speaking in a remote community.

✅ $900 will help Bumblebee get a mechanical service after being out on rough roads in the incredibly challenging terrain of the top end. 

✅ $1,200 will help Soul Lift run a full-day adventure program for at-risk youth who can't afford a program but really need one.

✅ $2,000 will provide emergency vehicle support, repairs, tyre replacements and mechanical issues. 

✅ $3,000 will help Soul Lift run a 3-day adventure program for at-risk youth needing to break free from harmful addictions and suicidal ideation.

✅ $5,000 will help Soul Lift provide leadership adventure programs for training-up mentors for ongoing support work with at-risk youth.

✅ $10,000 will help Soul Lift offer 10 scholarships for intensive adventure programs for youth starting to rise and overcome their situations, defying the odds to fly free and be all they were created to be!
