    Event description

    Flying High, Staying Grounded!

Sourdough Business Women Tweed are excited to present this special event at Rydges Gold Coast Airport Rooftop Bar.  In conversation with Marion Charlton - Chief Operating Officer Queensland Airports Pty Ltd (QAL) - we will be unpacking Marion's success in the male dominated aviation industry and how she navigates this whilst remaining aligned to her core values.

Marion has an impressive track record in business and aviation domestically and abroad.  Since joining QAL, Marion has held a variety of senior roles including her current position of Chief Operating Officer, where she manages the day to day operations of QAL group airports, and is overseeing the transformational Gold Coast Airport terminal expansion.

Marion has strong ties to the community and is a past Trustee with the Currumbin Wildlife Hospital Foundation, Chairperson of the Placemakers Gold Coast Board (hosts of Bleach Festival) and sits on the board of Bond University.

"I believe that it is difficult to be what you can't see. It is important to me that young women can see themselves doing whatever they aspire to including raising a family while being the Chief Operations Officer of an airport. Coming through the operational side of airports in the 80's and 90's women leaders were few and far between.  Like many women in these circumstances, I felt I had to work harder and longer to prove myself."

We look forward to getting under the covers of Marion's story, bringing to light the keys to her continued success as a highly valued leader in the Australian Aviation industry:

    -  How to fly high & be competitive without apology

    -  How to make tough decisions without losing one’s compassion and femininity

    -  Future opportunities for the Tweed region & small businesses as Gold Coast Airport expands

The conversation will be facilitated by leading Asian tourism and aviation industry expert, Lilly Choi-Lee, who is the co-founder & Executive General Manager of TravConsult.

TravConsult delivers Asian market insights, strategic and practical solutions and transformation for the aviation, tourism, and retail industries. She and business partner/husband, Trevor, created their business concept over red wine while living in Japan in the 1990’s with a life-changing event bringing TravConsult to fruition in 2002.

Lilly works with international airports, tourism destinations, integrated resorts, international hotel groups, government bodies, shopping centres, travel retail organisations, tour operators and more to analyse, strategise and transform attitudes - challenging status quos in doing business with Asian markets.

Amidst the turmoil of Covid-19 in mid-2020, Lilly co-founded Naturally Northern Rivers Australia, an online marketplace designed and crafted to take the provenance of their amazing region to the rest of the world.
