SCAPE Public Art pendant making workshop
Event description
A brand-new local arts activity for the school holidays!
Join us in celebrating SCAPE Public Art legacy artwork, He Toki Maitai by Jon Jeet, finding its permanent home in New Brighton with a creative, hands-on workshop led by SCAPE educator, Sarah Ackerley.
This workshop will be held at New Brighton Library and start with a short hīkoi to visit the artwork and learn about how the sculpture was made and the ideas behind the work. Then back at the library we will use design processes to create pendants inspired by Jon’s artwork and the symbolism used in pounamu carving.
Limited places available. This workshop is suitable for all ages, but younger children may benefit from adult supervision (supervising adults do not need to book).
He Toki Maitai is located next to the Roy Stokes Community Hall, 146 Seaview Road, which is 600 metres from the library. Participants will walk there and back. We won't visit the sculpture if the weather is vile :)
