Event description

Join us at the Shellharbour Civic Centre on Friday evening 19 August 2022 for an exciting movie and dinner event. We are honoured to screen the recently produced documentary film, Scattered People. The event will be held on World Humanitarian Day, to bring awareness and celebrate the value and rich culture of refugees from diverse backgrounds living in Australia. The evening will include live interaction with the producers of the film, a delicious Middle-Eastern meal provided by Laylaz at Albion Park and culturally diverse live music.

Scattered People is a story about the healing power of music, bringing together people, nations and cultures, while exploring Australians' attitudes towards refugees seeking asylum. The film is an inspiring and thought-provoking documentary that paints a picture of life as a musician seeking asylum in an unwelcoming country. It is a story of restitution and hope, of shared humanity and the role music can play in forging bonds of friendship and respect and giving voice to otherwise unsung heroes. It features interviews with music icons including Missy Higgins, John Butler, Archie Roach, Michael Franti, Katie Noonan, Dan Sultan, Baker Boy, Harry James Angus and more.

Doors open at 5pm for seating allocations. Finger food pastries will be offered with the film screening at 5.30pm sharp (please arrive early to avoid distractions during film). Dinner is served at 6.30pm with an interview by the producers and a chance to chat while listening to music by a Sudanese oud player.

Tables of 5 are available with any number reserved, while table locations are subject to change. Tables of 6 or 4 can be considered upon emailed request and at venue's discretion.

Dinner will be a Middle-Eastern dinner box including; bread, 1 dip, 1 small Kofta, 1 small Falafel, 1 small chicken skewer (shish tawook), salad and rice. Vegetarian option includes Falafels.  Table water is offered and you may bring non-alcoholic beverages to accompany your meal. Please note we cannot cater to all dietary requirements other than vegetarian and gluten-free.
