A statue of the Bodhisattva Guanyin sits in the British Museum, carrying the thoughts, memories, emotions of the people and places she came from.

Soon the question arises: does she belong there? Should she be repatriated back home to China?

But repatriation isn't as simple as it first appears. Complex political and social motivations quickly become apparent, and everybody has an opinion.

Follow the Guanyin's journey and all the disparate lives she touches along the way, from trafficking victims to 'woke' professors, in this fantastic exploration of identity, belonging, culture and art.

Scenes from a Repatriation, written in 2025 and reviewed as "a daring drama [that] balances biting satire with extraordinary personal depth" (London Theatre), is firmly centred in the modern world, touching upon a range of perspectives that feel powerful and haunting.
