School for Social Change 101 Course
Description
The SSC 101 course provides an opportunity for discussing philosophical principles and experimenting with practical techniques to facilitate your learning experiences in engaging, reflexive and horizontal ways.
This 2 hours workshop will allow participants to better understand the history and context of the SSC, and will offer an overview of the underlining values, purpose and pedagogical principles of the school that can inform your own activity.
Based on the diverse experiences and identities of the group, you will discuss how plural ways of learning and sharing knowledge accomodate for the different intentions and capacities that learners can bring to an activity you might have in mind. Together we will review and play with multiple techniques and tools to facilitate emancipatory education, from group formation, to discussion facilitation, creative forms of expression, and time management.
The workshop will give you space to apply those learnings in preparing an Expression of Interest (EOI) for the school. Overall, the course will support you to be more confident with preparing for and delivering other courses and workshops in the SSC.
We meet at Trades Hall, Room Wookie Kire Bang-Al (formally known as Archive Room), ground floor.
We will be there from 5:30 pm in case anyone has ideas they want to discuss. The event starts at 6 pm. It finishes 8:00 pm but we will stay until 8:30 pm in case anyone wants to discuss applications as well.
