School Holiday Program; Life Along Currumbin Creek - Mangroves & Estuaries
Description
Did you know that Currumbin Creek is home to an incredible diversity of wildlife? Beneath the water's surface, among the tangled mangrove roots, and along the muddy edges of the estuary, countless species find food, shelter, and a place to raise their young.
Life Along Currumbin Creek – Mangroves & Estuaries invites children to discover one of the Gold Coast's most important urban wildlife habitats. Through hands-on exploration, participants will learn how mangroves and estuaries support fish, crabs, birds, insects, and many other species, and why these ecosystems are essential to the health of our waterways and coastal environment.
Children will become young environmental scientists as they investigate the creek's wildlife and habitats, conduct water quality testing, record their findings, and learn how scientists and conservationists monitor ecosystem health.
Along the way, we'll explore what makes a healthy estuary, how these habitats help protect our coastline, and what is being done on the Gold Coast to preserve and restore these important environments for future generations.
Designed for children aged 8–12, this program combines science, discovery, citizen science, and outdoor adventure to create an engaging and meaningful learning experience.
