Ages 7 to 14 | 10AM to 3PM on Thursday, January 18th
All Day Art Camp
Your child is invited to a content-packed, yet relaxed and mindful school holidays workshop day, at the beautiful Tamworth Community Centre. Drop the kids off for a whole five hours, and they will have plenty of opportunity to learn, play and improve their skills with dedicated, experienced artistic educators; a wide array of high quality artistic resources and materials; and access to fresh air and exercise in a grassy courtyard.
Three Art Classes In One Day
Kids will have the option to attend not one or two, but three different workshops from professional artists in the one day.
10AM - 11AM: Danny Stanley will guide kids through making small sculptures out of high-quality polymer clay.Â
11.30AM - 12.30PM: Logan Hughes will lead a drawing class on designing characters full of personality.
1PM to 2PM: Sophie Honess will lead an embroidery workshop, with kids using their own drawings.
We understand that not every class is for every kid, and so kids also have the option to...
Choose Your Own Adventure
Use the schools resources to make a masterpiece your own way, while enjoying the company of other little artists and guidance of the teaching artists. We have a variety of activities to suit any artistically minded kids, including drawing; painting; animation; sculpture; loom weaving; embroidery and general crafts. We also have highly experienced teachers able to guide students along these various skills, and books and art figures for reference.
Kids can attend as many or little of the workshops on the day as they see fit. We at TAA like to ensure that students are both given the opportunities to learn new skills and techniques; but are also empowered to follow their own creative intuitions, and are able to be guided along the path of their choosing.
Mini Exhibition
The final hour of the day will be spent finishing off whatever projects the kids have started, and finally clearing the room and setting up a mini-exhibition to show off their work to the other students and arriving parents.
Exercise Breaks
We understand kids can only concentrate for so long at a time - so, every hour, we give them the chance to completely forget what they're doing, and run and play outside for twenty minutes or so. When they return, they have the option to continue what they were doing, or focus on the new skills being taught. This combination of variety, choice and rest, allows kids' minds to stay fresh and engaged over long periods of time. The Community Centre has a large grassy courtyard, with shady trees, where the kids can play with provided bats, balls, skipping ropes, etc, or just enjoy a snack under the shade of the trees.
Teachers on the day:
Danny Stanley: Drawing, painting, animation, sculpture
Sophie Honess: Weaving, embroidery, crafts
Logan Hughes: Drawing, animation
Location
All Tamworth Art Academy classes are held in the Britten Room at the heritage-listed Tamworth Community Centre. The large room is comfortable and air conditioned, with a kitchenette, and access to a large, grassy courtyard for breaks. This room contains art materials, as well as art books and classical and cartoon figurines for inspiration. During the regular class breaks, students will be able to use the provided bats, balls, frisbees etc. outside, or peruse the board games and art books in the air conditioning.
