AGE GROUP: This session is designed for Primary aged students

SYNOPSIS: We all have things we are good at and things we need help with, especially people with a disability. 'My Friend Alice' by local author Crystal Leonardi has been lovingly written to educate and comfort families of children with a disability. The purpose of this story is to ensure that children understand that our differences are what make us special. Prepare for a heartwarming and enlightening experience that encourages empathy, understanding, and a deeper appreciation for the unique qualities that make each of us truly extraordinary. Join us for this heartwarming author talk that will captivate the hearts and minds of primary school-aged children. In this engaging session, the Author will explore the delightful world of 'My Friend Alice: Explaining Disability to Kids.' Through the enchanting storytelling and captivating illustrations of this children's book, young readers will embrace the beauty of our differences and understand that these differences are what make each of us so special. Together, we will embark on a journey of inclusive play and celebrate the rich tapestry of diversity, introducing young minds to three special characters: Alice, Dennis, and Sebastian. ABOUT CRYSTAL LEONARDI: Born and raised in Cairns, Far North Queensland, Crystal Leonardi is now a multi-award-winning author and publisher. Nestled in the lush green rainforest of Julatten (better known as the Port Douglas Highlands), Crystal dedicates her time to writing and empowering other writers to publish through her unique business, Bowerbird Publishing. Through a tragic diagnosis, Crystal has found the strength to want more out of life and become a beacon of hope for others. Her first book, ‘Boy of Steel, Little Sebastian’s Big Miracle,’ sheds light on families' social, financial and emotional struggles when diagnosed with cancer. It is used by medical, nursing and psychology students as an educational tool at five James Cook University Campuses.
