You will be working towards the VTCT (ITEC) Level 2 Diploma in Complementary Therapies to gain the necessary introductory practical and theoretical skills in order to gain a sound platform or should you so wish go onto further training at level 3 or alternate level 2 qualifications required for practitioners in the complementary therapy industry.

Content

This qualification is for learners who want to work within the complementary therapies industry. The qualification consists of 7 mandatory units with a total of 450 hours of Guided Learning (GL) to achieve the full qualification. This is taken over two to three years.

The main skills the learner will perform are:

• Consultation techniques – to include understanding the needs of clients and when not to treat them

• Basic massage techniques – to include classical massage movements and selecting a suitable massage medium for the client.

Skills can be built on massaging the face and or back.

• Basic aromatherapy techniques – to include using pre-blended oils and adapting the treatment to suit the client’s specific needs. Learning to build your own product range as you go along that you can retail items further.

Oils kit sent as part of the course and basic ingredients in kits to make the products.

• Basic reflexology techniques – to include basic treatment techniques such as thumb walking, finger walking, relaxation and breathing and adapting the treatment to meet the client’s specific needs.

The learner will also develop knowledge about related health and safety and client care and communication which is essential to work and be successful in the complementary therapies industry.

This qualification also provides:

• The related knowledge and understanding required to perform the complementary therapy treatments listed above as well as understanding the structures that the learner will be working over, anatomy and physiology of the body, common diseases and disorders and reasons that may affect whether a client should or should not be treated

• Introductory knowledge and understanding of the principles and practice of complementary therapies to include how to work with crystals and colour ear candles and more.

• Introductory knowledge and understanding of business practice in a complementary therapy’s context. Helps to build business knowledge and experience whilst also looking at maths and English skills.

• Introductory knowledge and understanding of healthy eating and well-being in a complementary therapy’s context.

Whilst also matching health curriculum

• Opportunities for learners to focus on the development of their wider skills in a complementary therapy setting, such as communicating with clients, working with others and problem solving

• Opportunities for learners to develop a range of skills, techniques, personal qualities and attitudes essential for successful performance in employment as a complementary therapist.

Once learners have achieved the VTCT (ITEC) Level 2 Diploma in Complementary Therapies they may progress on to other VTCT (ITEC) or equivalent qualifications at level 3 for example:

Grading of the qualification

Learners must achieve a Pass grade in the requisite number of subjects

The overall qualification is graded Pass/Fail.

This is done by building a portfolio of evidence

Learners are required to provide a portfolio of evidence containing all the internal assessments and projects they have undertaken.

There is no time limit so you can work at your own pace with this course.

English: This subject encompasses reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and communication skills. Our course helps develop strong reading comprehension, written expression, and effective communication abilities.

Evidence is shown in the assignments produced and a talk to be planned and given regarding aromatherapy or reflexology to a group of interested people.

Mathematics: Mathematics provides the foundation for logical reasoning, problem-solving, and critical thinking. The business plan assignment ensures a comprehensive understanding of mathematical concepts used in real life scenarios.

Science: Explore various scientific areas such as biology within the anatomy lessons, chemistry within aromatherapy concepts, physics within electrical safety aspects f the course and environmental science whilst developing product ranges and business elements of the course. Hands-on product making, and research projects can enhance your child’s understanding of scientific principles.

Humanities and Social Studies: By studying the history of complementary therapies, teenagers gain insights into human society, culture, geography, and historical events. This course allows you to delve deeply into specific time periods and regions of the world, therefore creating a greater understanding of the world’s diverse cultures.
