Schubert Concert: A Benefit for the City of Goodness Children's Hospice
Description
UIMA is honored to present a special concert featuring members of the Chicago Lyric Opera Orchestra and Choir Glorious on Sunday, October 11 at 12:30 p.m.
For this concert, we have chosen to support City of Goodness Misto Dobra through the Ukrainian Women’s Association of America. (UWAA)
While so much of our attention is understandably directed toward Ukraine’s war effort, there are children fighting quieter battles every day - children who can too easily be forgotten.
At City of Goodness, children facing cancer, severe illness, disability, displacement, and loss are given something every child deserves: care, safety, dignity, and the reassurance that they are not alone. Some have lost their homes or families. Some have been injured by missiles. Others require constant medical and palliative care.
The war has made their lives even harder. Resources are stretched, costs continue to rise, and many Ukrainian donors who once helped sustain this work are now struggling themselves.
But a seriously ill child cannot wait for the war to end. Medicine cannot wait. Oxygen cannot wait. Compassionate care is needed every single day.
For me, this effort is deeply personal. Supporting Ukraine means not only defending its land and its freedom, but also caring for its people - especially those who are most vulnerable and cannot speak for themselves.
A gift of any size can provide treatment, comfort, warmth, and something equally important: the knowledge that someone has not forgotten them.
Ukraine is fighting for its future. These children are part of that future.
