La Jetée

La Jetée was written and directed by French documentary film maker and Left Bank intellectual, Chris Marker in 1962. This short film is an absolute science fiction and art school classic at 28 minutes and shot in black and white still photography. Its influence can be seen in science fiction heavyweight franchises like The Terminator and The Matrix. Its time-loop plotting manages to be both a precursor of broken world science fiction and a tragic love story.

The Andromeda Strain

This 1971 film is based on the 1969 novel by Michael Crichton, creator of the Jurassic World film universe and is an early classic of the Techno-thriller genre. The film is presented like a secret government report, as scientists battle to contain an interstellar outbreak that threatens the Earth. Some of the best features of the film are its 1970s paranoia, American desert locations, technological procedures, great interior sets and brilliant colour cinematography.
