Special Guest Speaker: Dr Edward Doddridge

Join award-winning Antarctic scientist, science communicator and prize-winning jam maker, Dr Edward Doddridge from the University of Tasmania's Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies.

Recently recognised as Tasmania's 2024 Young Tall Poppy of the Year and recipient of the 2025 Dr Peter Smith Medal from the Royal Society of Tasmania, Ed is known not only for his outstanding research, but also for his ability to share complex ideas with warmth, humour and clarity.

By day, Ed uses supercomputers, mathematical theory and observations from the Southern Ocean to investigate changes in Antarctica's oceans and sea ice. By season, he's also a prize-winning jam maker, proving that curiosity, creativity and experimentation extend well beyond the laboratory. He studied Maths and Physics at the University of Tasmania before earning a doctorate from Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar and undertaking postdoctoral research at MIT, eventually returning home to Tasmania.
