Event description

The New Zealand Penguin Initiative (NZPI) is an independent penguin conservation organisation working to enhance and protect the conservation status of NZ penguin species and their habitats.
NZPI’s core priority is the conservation of kororā/little penguins by supporting groups throughout New Zealand to monitor and protect their local penguin populations by identifying and mitigating threats.

Our guest speaker, Melissa McLuskie, is the Community Programme Manager for NZPI and has a background in zookeeping, wildlife veterinary nursing and wildlife management. She has had the privilege of spending over a decade working with Kororā/Little Penguins, primarily in Mount Maunganui and now visits colonies across the country. She is dedicated to reducing human-wildlife conflict, improving wildlife habitats and hopes to inspire communities to look after their local penguins to ensure they are around for future generations and continue to be an important part of our coastal and marine ecosystems.

Nau mai, haere mai! This is a FREE event held in the front bar of the Harbourview Hotel.
Arrive early if you want to order dinner, a drink and snag a good table. Science Night commences at 7pm.
