    Event description

Ever wondered what interesting things happen in the iconic Ecosciences Precinct in Dutton Park?

Come and join us for a Pint of Science to celebrate National Science Week 2023, and listen to just three of the many scientists from government agencies based there: CSIRO, the Department of Environment and Science, and the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries.

      • “Yeast and fermentation beyond beer”
        Andrew Forrest,
a DAF scientist, will talk about the history of beer and yeast, and the novel applications of yeast and fermentation he and his team are exploring in the food space.
      • “Social and ethical aspects of bioengineering organisms to solve our national challenges”
Hear from Aditi Mankad and Elizabeth Hobman, Psychological Scientists (CSIRO) about social and ethical aspects of bioengineering organisms to solve problems in health, agriculture, and the environment.
      • “The soil, that thing you step on every day”
Evan Thomas (DES) will tell us what it is and what is happening under our feet, soil science!

Science at the Ecosciences Precinct focuses on delivering an improved understanding of our natural resources and environment, to improve their management, and is helping our key industries, including agriculture, forestry and marine industries, to develop sustainable growth strategies.
