Description

The Skills & Science of Happiness: A 90-Minute Deep Dive

Most of us spent years studying technical skills to be good at our jobs, but we were never taught the human skills required to be happy.

In an era of rising burnout and global uncertainty, "winging it" with our wellbeing is no longer an option. We are living through a mental health crisis where many of us have the desire to feel better and fulfil our human potential, but lack the practical toolkit required to meet life’s challenges effectively.

Join Declan Edwards; researcher, founder of BU Happiness College, and the man known globally as "That Happiness Guy", for an immersive workshop that moves beyond "toxic positivity" and explores the rigorous science of flourishing.

What we will explore:

This session isn't just a lecture; it is a roadmap. Drawing on evidence from Positive Psychology, Philosophy, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), we will go deeper into:

  • The Wellbeing Spectrum: Explore the difference between suffering, surviving, and flourishing from a strengths based perspective.

  • The Wheel of Happiness Skills: Identify the specific skills that are correlated with happiness.

  • The 4 Stages of Skill Development: Understand exactly why change feels hard and how to move from "knowing" to "doing" until your new habits become second nature.

  • The Ripple Effect: Discover how managing your own happiness is actually the most selfless thing you can do for your family, your workplace, and your community.

  • The "Must-Have" Toolkit: Declan shares the foundational skills that provide the highest "return on investment" for your personal growth and sense of wellbeing.

Who Is This Event For?

This workshop is designed for curious minds and proactive individuals who are tired of "surface-level" wellness advice and are ready for a deep, evidence-based dive into what actually makes a human being flourish.

This is for you if:

  • You’re a high-performer at risk of burnout: You love what you do, but the mental and emotional load is catching up. You need a sustainable way to maintain your impact without sacrificing your health.

  • You’re a leader, educator, or people-manager: You understand that "culture" is more than just a pool table in the breakroom. You want to learn how to lead with a humanistic lens and create a genuine ripple effect of wellbeing in your team.

  • You’re a "purpose-driven" professional: Whether you work in a social enterprise, a NFP, or a corporate role with a conscience, you want to ensure your internal wellbeing matches the external impact you’re trying to make.

  • You’re a lifelong learner: You’ve always been curious about psychology and philosophy, and you want to see how these ancient and modern concepts can be applied to your modern, daily life.

  • You’re ready to move from "Knowing" to "Doing": You might have read the books or listened to the podcasts, but you’re looking for the practical "how-to" to finally make these habits stick.

Whether you are currently "languishing" and looking for a way out, or already "flourishing" and looking to sharpen your skills, this session provides the shared language and toolkit to help you take the next step on your journey.

Why attend?

Whether you are feeling stuck, stressed, or simply ready for the next chapter of your personal growth, this workshop provides a thorough toolkit to help you understand happiness as a science. You will leave not only with a deeper understanding of your own wellbeing but with clear, actionable steps to live a more fulfilling life and help others do the same.

Don't leave happiness to chance. Master the skills and science to make it a certainty.
