Scrap to Sparkle: Jewellery Workshop
Description
Learn, play and create in this hands-on jewellery workshop! Using recycled, reclaimed and repurposed materials ranging from ceramic pieces to beads and aluminium, you will be guided through the construction of your own unique wearable items to take home. You will be shown how to plan, organise and create a necklace, bracelet and pair of earrings using assorted findings (jump rings and headpins), stringing, wire twisting and crimping techniques.
About you:
All levels of experience making welcome
No prior jewellery experience required
All materials provided
Closed in shoes required
Must be over 14 years of age - under 18 years old must be accompanied by an adult
In this workshop, you will:
Learn how to re-use objects and materials in fun new ways
Be given a chance to experiment and test using jewellery techniques
Explore composition, balance, and colour in jewellery design
Learn basic jewellery making terminology and techniques
Learn to safely handle tools such as pliers and stamps
Leave with one or more finished pieces of jewellery or decorative items
About us:
It*s Material is a Magandjin based artist collective consisting of seven members working across jewellery, small objects and more!
In this workshop you will be led by It*s Material’s Kat Bracco who is an experienced teacher and jewellery maker. Kat has been working with found and recycled materials to make jewellery and small decorative items for over 15 years. She will take you through ways to transform assorted materials to make fun new pieces suitable as earrings, pendants, brooches and more.
Assisting on the day will be It*s Material’s Jennifer Lind who will be there to answer questions and provide any extra help you may need!

FAQs
- What do I need to bring?
Just yourself and some closed in shoes! We will be providing all tools and materials.
We will have a short tea break at 11:40am so feel free to bring food for this break if you would like. Basic coffee/black tea will be provided.
- What is the photography in the workshop used for?
We will be taking close up photographs of the pieces you make in the workshop as well as pictures and videos of the group working. These will be used for promotional/documentation purposes and some will be printed out and hung in an exhibition at Ipswich Community Gallery in February in our ‘Community Corner.’
We will check in at the start of the workshop and if requested can ensure your face and/or work is not shown in any of the images/videos.
