Event description

Explore the fundamentals of screen acting in this six-week course lead by professional actor and acting coach Ana Maria Belo. Develop essential skills to create compelling, believable performances for the screen. 

You will gain practical, hands-on experience working with scripts, collaborating with a reader, and performing in front of the camera. Receive personalised feedback, reflect on your on-screen performances to refine your craft and deepen your understanding of the material.

Course Outline:

  • Script Breakdown - Defining given circumstances and objectives.

  • Line learning methods.

  • Hitting your mark and adjusting to camera angles.

  • Making strong character choices.

  • Versatility of Screen Acting - Adapting your performance for commercial and narrative driven scenes.

Whether you're looking to refine your technique or are new to acting, this course will equip you with the tools and confidence needed to be comfortable and confident in front of the camera.

About Ana Maria:

Ana Maria Belo is one of Australia’s most versatile performers, having graced most of our stages and screens – small, large, independent, and mainstream.

Ana Maria has been teaching acting and performance for more than 20 years and is adept at revealing how an actor can create a dynamic performance. Her techniques give you the confidence to really express your full potential. ​

She has an affinity with young actors that helps them thrive. Some of her clients are now starring in feature films, TV shows and commercials, both here and overseas.

Television credits include All Saints, Home & Away, White Collar Blue, According To Bex on BBC, Life Begins season 2 on ITV, House Husbands, Doctor Doctor, Secret City 2, Frayed season 1 & 2,  Bump, Mikki vs the World, Appetite, The Last Days of the Space Age on Disney plus, Apples Never Fall on  Binge/Peacock, Mix Tape for Binge.

Ana Maria starred in the series It's Fine, I'm Fine, which was selected to premiere at CanneSeries 2022. It had its Australian premiere at Melbourne International Film Festival and is available now on Netflix.

Ana Maria was also story producer and additional writer on this series. Ana Maria has appeared in the feature films A Cold Summer, The Casting Game, The Book of Revelation and Unsound.

Ana Maria is also a filmmaker and has produced/written/directed the short films, Things To Do, Magic Words, and The Kid’s Table. She also created her own web series Real Tinder Nightmares.
