SD Fixit Clinic in La Mesa

Event description

Please Read First.

We've become too accustomed to the throw-away lifestyle. If something breaks, we toss it out and buy a new one. This behavior is filling our landfills at an alarming rate, and electronic waste is now one of the biggest sources of pollution. So why not learn how to fix things instead?!

Bring your broken, non-working items—electronics, appliances, computers, toys, bicycles, clothes, and more—for assessment, disassembly, and possible repair. We'll provide workspace, specialty tools, and guidance to help you take apart and troubleshoot your item. Even if we can't fix it, you'll learn more about how it was made and how it works.

This event is fun for the whole family, so bring your kids! We are expanding rapidly and will host events all over San Diego County.

We hope to see you there!

FAQs

Is this event located in the same location each month?

After pausing in-person clinics during the COVID-19 pandemic, we began holding in-person events again in 2022. We move the SD Fixit Clinic to different locations across San Diego County each month to provide more opportunities to the community. To receive up-to-date information, follow our page at http://www.sdfixitclinics.org.

Check out when we will be back in La Mesa:

Does pre-registration save a spot?

Registering ahead of time lets us know what type of items to expect in order to recruit a volunteer with that skill and expedients the check-in process. It does not mean you have a guaranteed spot and do not get priority over walk-ins. This event is first come, first serve. If you arrive as a walk-in or register at 10:00 am, you will be served when a spot (or specific skilled coach) is available. Why register? Because you will receive reminder emails and updates while the walk-ins do not. Please note we will not serve anyone who arrives after 12:30 pm.

How is the parking?

Plenty of parking spots should be available on the side streets, and the parking lot should be located East of the Library, closer to City Hall and the trolley.

How many items can I bring to the event?

Please bring ONE ITEM that needs to be repaired, and keep in mind we will try our best to solve the problem, but not every case is a success. Additional items brought in will be listed as walk-ins and serviced on a case-by-case basis.

How can I get up-to-date information?

Simply go to https://events.humanitix.com/host/sdfixitclinic and follow us. You will be the first to know every time we add a new event.

Where can I contact the organizer with any questions?

Please contact sdfixitclinic@gmail.com for any questions

How can I volunteer at the San Diego Fixit Clinics?

SD Fixit Clinic is about neighbors helping neighbors. When registering, if you want to volunteer for the day, find the volunteer for the day option. If you want to stay around and volunteer all over the county, please follow the link below to complete an application form. Click here for the application.

I have an excellent idea for a repair demonstration and/or workshop. Who do I talk to?

Awesome! Please email us at sdfixitclinic@gmail.com  and let us know all about it. We love showing off our community's skills.

I registered, and now I am not sure I can attend. What should I do?

If you don't know if you will attend, please cancel your registration at least THREE days before the event to allow additional people to reserve a spot. Or email us at sdfixitclinic@gmail.com and let us know.

**Too many no-shows attached to your email address will result in no more allowances to pre-register, and you must attend as a walk-in.**
Please note: no-shows can cause a severe issue when planning future programs regarding venues, volunteers, and location. We know this is a free event, but please give us the common courtesy and let us know if you cannot attend.
Does this cost money?

This event is free to attend, but it is not a drop-off and fix event. Instead, it is a hands-on event where participants can learn how to repair their items with the help of our expert coaches.

What if my item needs a replacement part?

As this is a free event, we do not provide replacement parts. You will be responsible for any costs incurred if your item requires additional or replacement parts. We may have some spare parts on hand, but it is the attendee's responsibility to purchase and bring the necessary parts on the day of the event.

In other words, this is a free event, so you are responsible for your equipment and any repairs that may be needed. We may have spare parts, but you must bring them if required.

Will you accept walk-ins?

We will accept walk-ins if there is time, but it depends on how quickly we can repair the items of the registered attendees.

Do you take donations of tools and supplies?

Oh boy, do we. If you have any old tools you don’t need, please bring them to the next SD Fixit Clinic and/or email us at sdfixitclinic@gmail.com to arrange drop-off locations.
