ENGAGING, THOUGHT PROVOKING, IMPACTFUL, POWERFUL

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are ambitious and can seem overwhelming simply due to their volume and scope. While powerful in their potential impact on the world, approaching them can be daunting.

The 2030 SDGs GAME is a fast paced multiplayer, in-person card-base game that simulates taking the ‘world’ into the year 2030. Designed in Japan in 2016 by Imacocollabo, this experience has become a powerful social phenomenon around the globe, played by corporations, SMEs, NGOs, schools, government agencies and the community.

HOW THE GAME WORKS
The team simulation allows the group to immerse themselves into our current timeline, to see how decisions made can impact both their team and the world. Teams are trying to achieve their goals by running projects using money and time however, every time a team runs a project it affects the state of the world, which in turn may make it easier or harder for other teams to achieve their goal. Playing to the year 2030, teams attempt to reach their goals and co-create a sustainable world.

WHY MAKE IT A GAME?
Understanding the complexity of the SDGs, a game approach has three powerful advantages:

1. It gives people a direct experience of participating in co-creating a sustainable world (“I can do it”; “what I do makes a difference.”

2. It simplifies and makes accessible an extremely complex issue to a level that allows people to begin to understand, while stimulating our natural curiosity to learn more.

3. It activates players’ natural instincts to set their aim toward a worthy goal, simultaneously building confidence and making it enjoyable, while inspiring and motivating players to take action in the real world.

Understand the purpose of the SDGs & why we need them as a global sustainability framework
Start an SDGs dialogue
Experience the importance of collaboration
Experience the power of collective change
Build consensus whilst trying to achieve their goal
Learn the difference between SDGs & ESG and how they can integrate to build a comprehensive sustainability strategy

Simulation games are important for:

1. Skill Development: they enhance critical thinking, problem-solving, and strategic planning

2. Real-World Applications: many mimic real-life scenarios, allowing for safe experimentation with complex concepts

3. Education: they serve as effective educational tools, teaching subjects in an engaging way

4. Creativity: these games encourage creative thinking and exploration of solutions

5. Social Interaction: multiplayer options foster teamwork and communication

6. Understanding Systems: players learn about complex systems and the impact of their decisions. Overall, simulation games combine entertainment and education, offering valuable experiences and skills
