Thu, 10 Dec, 5am - 7am EST

Description

This specialist session explores autistic people’s experiences of SDS and how flexible, person-led support can promote rights, choice, independence and control.

Drawing on lived experience, evidence and practical examples, we will consider SDS processes and support arrangements through the principles of SDS, Independent Living, the social model of disability and the neurodiversity paradigm.

By the end of the session, you will:

  • Understand how key SDS and Independent Living principles apply to supporting autistic people.

  • Learn about autistic people’s experiences of navigating SDS.

  • Understand how flexible, person-led SDS can promote rights, choice and independence.

  • Identify useful resources and practical ways to strengthen your own approach.

Who is it for?

Professionals with some knowledge of autism and experience of providing support with SDS who want to deepen their understanding of SDS in relation to autistic people.

Format: 2-hour online specialist session, drawing on lived experience, evidence, practical examples and reflection.
