Event description

Each year from September 1 to October 4, the Christian family unites for this worldwide celebration of prayer and reflection, as well as action, to protect our common home ("The Season of Creation"). We are co-creatures and part of all that God has made. Our well-being is interwoven with the well-being of the Earth. This year, the theme for the season is “Peace with Creation", a call for a restoration of justice after having waged a war against Creation.

Before European settlement, which started in the mid-1800s, there were extensive sand dune systems that spanned the coast from south of Kingston Park to north of Outer Harbor, including Seacliff. These sand dunes extended for 30 km, were 20m high and travelled as far as 300m inland. Development over time has removed the majority of these dune systems which naturally provided replenishments of sand and this has caused significant disturbance and damage to the ecosystem.

We therefore invite you to gather at Angus Neill Reserve at Seacliff, close to the intersection of Esplanade and Young St, where will be guided south along the coast by Sam Buxton Stewart, Greening Officer, City of Holdfast Bay. This will be an opportunity to reflect on and learn about the environmental harms that humans have and continue to inflict. But tangible and meaningful actions are also required and ecosystem restoration is one such way we can help restore justice and facilitate personal and collective ecological conversion. Be inspired by the restoration work that has already been undertaken along this section of the coast and learn first hand what you can do to assist. There will be opportunity for questions, discussion, prayer and reflection.

Due to the sensitive nature of the environment, registrations will be limited to 20 persons. Children will need to be supervised and dogs are not permitted. Please be SunSmart and bring some water.
