Seaweed Farming in Disaster Bay: information session and research workshop

This event has passed Get tickets

Event description

In order to understand the way communities will respond to new and emerging offshore industries, this event brings together AusKelp, a local business proposing a seaweed farm in Disaster Bay, and BF-TRIa UOW research team.

NB: The research conducted by UOW is independent from industry. It is funded by the NSW Government and has not received any funding from AusKelp or any other industry group or company.

The event has two purposes:

  1. For AusKelp the session will provide an opportunity to introduce the Eden community to  their proposal to develop a seaweed farm at Disaster Bay. The aim to begin ongoing conversations with the community around the potential development of the farm that will require formal public consultation as well as social and environmental impact assessments in the future.
  2. For UOW, the associated research workshop will use the Disaster Bay proposal as one of three case studies in their project which aims to explore community reactions and response to these future offshore industries that will require consideration in future planning and assessment processes.

The information session and the research workshop are being held in conjunction with each other so that the UOW team can observe and record the experiences of both industry and the community and capture live sentiment, to help inform the development of a region wide report.

Further information on the research can be found in the Participant Information Sheet or on the project website
