Seaweed Pressing Workshop

Join Ulster Wildlife for a relaxed and creative three-hour session at Donaghadee Community Hall, with time spent both indoors and exploring the surrounding seashore. 

The workshop will begin with a short introduction to the fascinating world of seaweed and the incredible variety of more than 500 species found around our shores. 

We’ll then venture onto the shore, to gather stranded seaweed specimens to use in our pressing activity (pre-collected specimens will also be available if needed). 

Back in the hall, you’ll learn a little about the history of seaweed pressing and herbariums before being guided step by step through the process of preparing and pressing your own seaweed pieces. 

You’ll have the chance to arrange your seaweeds artfully, discover the names of the different species you have, and pick up simple tips for identifying them — leaving with both new knowledge and beautifully pressed seaweed artwork to take home. 

• Mostly indoor but short venture outside onto the shore

• Please wear suitable clothing for the weather and wellies/boots

• Children 12+ welcome but must be supervised by a responsible adult at all times
