Join us for Second Natures Annual General Meeting and to hear about the importance of Kangaroo grass in grassland restoration.

Following brief AGM formalities, we welcome Marne Durnin who will present 'Kangaroo grass: a keystone species for grassland restoration'. Marne will talk about the history of grasslands since colonisation, different approaches to grassland restoration, and some anecdotal information about her current research trials involving Themeda.

Marne is a land manager, plant biologist and PhD candidate from the School of Agriculture at the University of Adelaide. She is currently working on Kangaroo Grass (Themeda triandra Forrsk.), a large, summer-growing tussock grass. It once dominated many grassy ecosystems in our region but today has less than 1% of its precolonial distribution. Evidence suggests that Kangaroo Grass was a "keystone species" with a disproportionately large impact on grassy ecosystems and there is now growing interest in its re-establishment at scale for seed production, Aboriginal cultural practices and as a first step in restoration.
