SecondHand Sunday
Event description
IT'S ON! 19 MARCH 2023
SECONDHAND SUNDAY (formerly SecondHand Saturday) the great community SecondHand Market, is coming back to Quarry Green, proudly supported by The Ultimo, Pyrmont and Darling Square Communities, Uniting Harris Community Centre, MustardSeed Uniting Church, Darling Square Community Bank and Heartdancers.
As at previous SecondHand events, SecondHand Sunday will highlight sustainability - all sorts of ways to reduce waste-to-landfill and change habits through upcycling, repurposing. swapping, and/or selling secondhand/preloved household items (items that can be easily carried away, definitely no mattresses). We begin with a Welcome to Country and a Smoking Ceremony, traditional dance, Didgeridoo and song lines by cultural educator, Gumaroy Newman. There will be workshops and information booths to learn about urban gardening, First Nations caring for country and traditional foodways, the real costs of fast fashion, how to repair your bike, furniture, repurpose sewing, water use all to promote sustainable living and resource conservation.
Come join in! Book a stall, for yourself/family or with some friends, and help make this SecondHand Sunday a fantastic community event. Priority will be given to those who live, study, work or volunteer in Ultimo, Pyrmont or Darling Square. Others will be waitlisted and notified as soon as possible.
We can provide tables and chairs if you need them. Please be aware that each table will cost $10, and chairs are free. Please make sure to book tickets for the tables. We will not be able to have extra tables available on the 19th.
Please be aware that as a community-driven/waste reduction/sustainability event, items must be secondhand / pre-loved. Anything you brought to the market that you do not sell, swap or upcycle, you are responsible for taking away with you. We will share a list of places that may take your leftover items.
We stand with First Nations People. We recognise and respect the enduring relationship they have with their lands and waters, and we pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging.
