Seed Collection Workshop with Marie Jacobson

To celebrate World Biodiversity Day join us for an interactive workshop where you will learn all about seed collection. This half-day workshop will cover topics including legislation and licensing, botany basics, seed collection techniques and equipment, and processing and storage of seed.   Marie will bring along many objects for participants to get their hands on, including seed and fruit from an array of species and families, and the equipment we use.  During the workshop we will go for a walk around the APACE grounds to look at and discuss species that are relevant to participants.  There will be plenty of time for participants to ask questions and learn from Marie’s expertise and experience.  

About Marie

Marie Jacobson is an experienced botanist and horticulturist with a Bachelor of Science in Botany and Agricultural Science, a Diploma in Horticulture, and over 10 years hands-on industry experience. Based in Western Australia, she specialises in flora identification, native bushland management, seed collection, GIS mapping, and technical report writing.

Marie has worked across a diverse range of roles, from managing the Swan Regional Seed Bank at APACE to conducting comprehensive botanical surveys and maintaining native vegetation. She holds a Flora Taking Licence and has contributed to significant projects for clients including the City of Canning, City of Wanneroo, and the Department of Lands, Planning and Heritage — spanning detailed flora surveys, Phytophthora Dieback assessments, and Black Cockatoo habitat evaluations across many of WA’s bioregions.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
