‘Seed of Struggles’ will be presented by Marcelo Chimbolema, a musician, a film collaborator, and environmentalist defender from Ecuador indigenous communities Kichwa Puruwa. Marcelo is going to be in Australia presenting Seed of Struggles film and building solidarity with the indigenous and popular organisations in Ecuador.

We are inviting everyone interested to express solidarity with the people in struggle in Ecuador. Today under martial law on the excuse of fighting terrorism, narco-terrorism, and street delinquents, the current Novoa’s government is using this law to persecute and harasses grassroots and indigenous leaders and organisations that demand to end exploitation by foreign companies, stop landowners oppression, denouncing colonialism and neoliberal-capitalist policies.

‘Seed of Struggles’ film synopsis

The peasant and indigenous communities of the province of Esmeraldas, on the northern coast of Ecuador, work for miserable salaries for a landowner who imposes his own law, turning the workers into slaves and debtors.

When the peasants and indigenous cannot pay and the debt grows, the landowner uses his power to evict them out of their land by force.

To survive, the peasants and indigenous plant bananas that they sell to a corrupt businessman who has made this business his monopoly and for which he pays to the peasants and indigenous a very small amount.

Tired of injustices, the peasant and indigenous communities decided to unite, they stopped selling their bananas and they intent to recover their lands stolen by the rich landowner and Multinational corporations. The rebellion is so strong that it changes the course of their lives forever giving them back their own destiny.
