Sun, Oct 19, 12pm - 6pm EDT

Event description

The 5Rhythms® practice invites us back into the wisdom of our bodies and unleashes the dynamic healing power of movement.

IFS offers a framework for understanding and healing by helping us facilitate a journey of self-discovery, compassion, and ultimately, liberation from the weight of the past.

Somatic IFS recognizes that the body holds memories, emotions, and experiences that can be accessed and processed through body awareness, movement, breathwork, and touch.

This workshop brings together all 3 of these incredible healing modalities to offer a light and playful gateway into the wise and compassionate witness that lives within (in IFS called Self energy) We also will explore a creative pathway into "legacy burdens" (limiting beliefs, emotional wounds, or dysfunctional relationship patterns that can show up in our lives without our conscious understanding of where they come from).

Together we will move through a 5Rhythms wave to open and expand and drop in some embodiment practices from Somatic IFS that encourage your body's natural impulse to restore balance and healing.

The workshop will include dance, group exercises, journaling and discussion. (We won't be dancing for all 6 hours!)

-------------------------------------

In the 5Rhythms we dance our way from inertia into movement, from chaos into stillness. We give shapes and expressions into the different aspects of ourselves and allow them to shape shift with practice and awareness. As we dance the wave, we get a lived experience of connection with this Self who lives in the still place within our moving center.

Within this workshop are concepts from the therapeutic principles of Internal Family Systems, explored through the 5Rhythms embodiment map. While these bodies of work are therapeutic in nature, this workshop is not "therapy".

Prerequisite: None. All workshop hours contribute to 5Rhythms® Teacher Training prerequisites

A word about touch, courtesy & consent

By participating in this workshop you agree to be a partner in co-creating a safe and brave space for our collective dance practice. Since the dance part of this workshop is non-verbal, we ask that you please make eye contact with other dancers before any physical contact. Even if it’s your best friend or partner, on the dance floor we honor sovereignty. Someone may be having a deep experience, some dancers dance with eyes closed or half mast and touch could be disruptive or dis-regulating. On the dance floor, please use your eyes as a means for engagement. After eye contact, if you are not open to touch, please say or signal to your partner that you are not a yes to physical contact (ie; offering a Namaste 🙏🏻 or arms crossed or by walking away).

Land acknowledgment

The Native American settlement at what is now Northampton was called Norwottuck, or Nonotuck, meaning: "the midst of the river." It consisted of a core area where clan meetings and elders' councils were held. This area included communal cemeteries and probably sweat lodges used for curing. This is land belonging to the Nipmuc, Pocumtuc, Nonotuc people.
